Dr. Chen
Dr. Yunmei Chen is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mathematics. Since 2009, she is also the co-director of the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Image Processing, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. She was the first female Ph.D. trained in mathematics in China. Her research interests are in the areas of optimization and mathematical imaging, developing PDE models and analyzing their solutions for image de-noising, segmentation and registration. Dr. Chen holds four patents, co-authored three books, co-authored over 183 papers, and mentored eighteen graduate students.
One of Dr. Chen’s research interests involves using variational methods for image enhancement and noise reduction. Included here is a figure from a recent article that illustrates using these techniques to reconstruct an image. She is also a leading expert in computer vision and image processing.
